Right,
forestofglory suggested I capslock about some of the fic I've been reading, and I'm not gonna lie to you: I've been stuck in a hole of Scum Villain's Self-Saving System fic since the summer! I'm still in the stage where I'm just trying a bit of everything to see what I like, which is honestly baffling, because I can't understand why I haven't run out of fic yet. Is this what it's like to be in a large and active fandom?!
(Q: Susan, you know there are bigger fandoms on AO3, right?
A: Listen, I live in "six people and a shoelace" fandoms, the fact that there's something updating every day is MINDBLOWING.)
A thing that I've been learning through this dive is that reading WIPs is honestly less stressful than waiting until a fic is finished before I read it. If I start reading it while it's a WIP, then I can't be intimidated by its eventual word count! I mean, it helps that I basically expect every WIP to go completely unfinished, but, *hand-waves aggressively* Plus, I was surprised when I realised how many modern AUs I was reading, because honestly they're not something that I ever seek out? I don't DISlike modern AUs, it just never occurs to me to look for them.
And a thing that I'm learning about
writing about fic is that talking about what fic I'm reading and enjoying feels a lot more revealing about my id than reviewing books. Unsurprising, considering how many fic are drilling down to one specific thing that the writer's thinking about, but still rude!
So, uh, here's a whistle-stop tour of my id this week, I guess???????
( Read more... )What you should all take from this list is that I want the grumpy one to be soft for the confused one, ridiculous shoujo manga tropes, and people to be incredibly bad at using their words.
