spindizzy: Bakumon sitting on a bench looking tired (Ain't easy being dead)

Progress on the wall-staring and person-being: it is going! I feel a bit "I have never done things in my life, how dare you suggest such a thing!" but I keep finding notes that I made to myself that say yes, I did in fact do a thing. [twitter.com profile] LexGarrett and I went down to the south coast to visit family and attend a family funeral (his family – Lex says he's fine, I am trying not to fuss him too much), so obviously everything that happened before the trip was actually a thousand years ago and no longer counts.

The main notes I have from the trip is that apparently the secret to blending in with a room full of middle-class women is The Great British Sewing Bee. Had a very pleasant conversation with some of Lex's. relatives about it and how great Man-Yee is. And his pre-teen cousins were very chuffed that I complemented them on their Animal Crossing build-a-bears so they offered to hook me up with their dealer (a relative who works there). Bless [twitter.com profile] jilliferium as well — I spend like a week sending her pictures of plain black dresses going "Is this appropriate for a funeral? How about this one?"

I also tried scones with cream and jam for the first time and I wasn't a fan. I will stick to the butter, thank you. Although I did find out that the "what order does cream and jam go on" debate is less stupid than I thought – I eat scones like a sandwich, as god intended, with whatever filling on the inside. I thought the debate was about which filling you put on the top half and which on the bottom before you sandwiched them back together. Nope. The south eats their scones separated and this is bizarre to me.

(My main thoughts about the funeral are "I can't believe that [twitter.com profile] readingtheend prepared me for Catholic services with how many times she's joked about forgetting that the response is 'And with your spirit' and I STILL got it wrong!" It was my first Catholic church service because my schools were CoE/Methodist, so I got tripped up by that and by the bits that are sung vs spoken being the complete opposite way round to what I expect. ... And I'm REALLY GLAD Lex's car playlist behaved itself, because it blaring Take Me Out in the carpark was probably best result we could get when the other alternatives included Unlimited Sin, Ready to Die, and Resurrection by Erection.)

We saw some of our friends that we haven't seen since before the pandemic, we hung out with Lex's mum, we checked out the aquarium – apart from the funeral and that, it was a good trip! Lex has fled to the safety of his work's air-conditioned building now; my master plan was to spend the heatwave lurking in the cinema, but there's nothing on that I want to see. So! Updated plans for the day are pretty much shower, try to write, figure out if there's a way to stuff my latest sewing projects without covering the entire house in sawdust. Be safe out there, and UK folks please try not to get heatstroke. ♥
