Hey sweetpeas, everything is on fire and I am collecting links for places to donate and resources for reading and just... Whatever I can find that seems legit, basically, because there's so much going past right now. If in doubt, there are lists here with concrete actions that you can take, and that's where I've started.
Link compilations
Educational stuff
Businesses to support
Fundraisers
I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said a thousand times and better. Stay safe.
Link compilations
- Sidequest have a list of fundraisers for the families of victims of police violence, links to bail funds and places that need frontline supplies, people in the game industry who are offering support/bundles, and artists who are offering commissions for donations to BLM groups.
- I don't know what a carrd is, but this has resources, petitions, call lists, and links to places you can donate.
-
botanicaldyke made a list of national resources; legal services, action items if you can't donate, and places to put your money if you can.
- Stephanie Burgis has a list of resources and places to donate and is offering free ebooks if you donate.
-
jilliferium has suggestions of what you can do if you can't donate.
-
citizenhelene made a list of suggestions specifically for people in the UK.
Educational stuff
- "Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect?: Police Violence and Resistance in the United States" Edited by Joe Macaré, Maya Schenwar, and Alana Yu-lan Price — Haymarket Books have this for free, talking about the history of police violence in the US.
- The End of Policing by Alex S. Vitale — Verso Books have made this free as well; it's about the effectiveness of reforming police (low) and whether it would be better to just burn the whole organisation and find another way.
- Please excuse links to The Guardian, but they have a list of articles about the UK's own SUPER RACIST history.
-
victoriaalxndr has a recommended reading list for white people wanting to unlearn racism.
- And this tweet is SPECIFICALLY to stop people asking POC to explain things.
Businesses to support
-
bookncrannies_ has a list of Black-owned bookshops that have twitter accounts.
-
nicolejarvis has also compiled a list of Black-owned bookshops in response to one on instagram that listed some that weren't operating.
- This is a crowdfunding project for independent publishers in the UK – primarily Knights Of and Jacaranda Books, but additional funds will go to other independent publishers.
- This is a huge list of etsy shops owned by Black people that doesn't have any details apart from names, links, and general categories, but apparently promotion posts are being taken down on FB so they're going for maximum number of shops over maximum amount of details.
- If you want a list with details, this is a list of Black-owned kawaii brands and the pictures are gorgeous.
Fundraisers
- Collecting money to support Black trans women who are homeless and/or sex-workers in Atlanta. (I got that link from this thread of Black trans people who need money but I don't have venmo so I have no idea how I'd check if those are legit.)
- Act Blue have a page that lets you split one donation between bail funds, mutual aid funds, and organisations that are already doing the work for racial justice.
- Black Minds Matter — Raising money to pay for therapy for Black people in the UK as the NHS is currently *gestures at coronavirus* They have a website with more information and lists of practitioners if that helps anyone.
- Apparently ad revenue from this video is being donated, so if you can't donate directly, maybe this will help?
