[Fic] Shadowrun // New Johnsons
Saturday, 14 November 2015 11:30 pmI am so tired and have no idea the fuck is even. Have Joshua being as done with shit as I am. WHat are words.
There was a new Mr Johnson in town. Paid well, offered mostly corp runs, and was so new to the job that he seemed to forget his own damn fake name. But the important part of that was paid well.
... Even though Joshua was starting to think it wasn't worth the aggravation.
"Seriously?" he asked, eyebrows climbing as he looked over the job. "You're offering me a Renraku job?"
The Mr Johnson smiled, the bright artificial flash of his teeth under the nightclub neon just accentuating his layer of patronising smugness. "I do apologise. I was under the impression that you were looking for a lucrative challenge. If that sounds too difficult then I'm sure there's a gentleman in the Jump House who might have something more your speed."
"That isn't the problem," Joshua said. "The problem is that I did a run there about…" He made a show of checking his pad. "Half an hour ago. For you. Maybe we should give them enough time to turn the alarms off before I go back?"
Mr Johnson dropped his pad in his haste to check his records, the run apparently having been deleted from his memory, along with Joshua's face in the time it took Joshua to get to the bar and back.
New Johnsons. They were worse than new runners for not knowing anything at all, and he would know.

Date: 2015-12-12 12:54 am (UTC)I do like to scribble about Joshua once he's settled in Seattle and he knows what's going on, because I figure he spends a lot of time flailing around and almost being smooth, and then realises that somehow this flailing translated into him having a pretty good rep and not having to put up with terrible Johnsons anymore. And that now he can look back at his old runs/equipment and wince a lot.
... Especially because Haversham, Reckert, and anyone he ever did a run with will NEVER LET HIM FORGET.
