I don't mean to keep writing serious fic about Gilbert, because he's so melodramatic sometimes that it's hard to take him seriously, but on the other hand he's so melodramatic that he's REALLY EASY TO WRITE. My life.

Sometimes, he wonders what sort of pair they would have been like if Oz hadn't been thrown into the abyss. If Oz would have still bullied him mercilessly, or if he would have grown out of it. If they would have grown apart, both finally able to stand on their own as they hadn't when they were young.

Or perhaps they would have grown together, twisted around each other each other like some cobbled-together tree, neither of them completely able to stand alone, each bound to the other by their weaknesses.

Sometimes, he doesn't know which would have been better.
