I made the foolish mistake of looking at the news headlines!
Tuesday, 12 May 2020 01:03 pmMy immediate reaction to the headlines – before I'd even read the report – was "It's okay, work are offering voluntary redundancy until June." Cool, anxiety is a little high about this, good to know...
I think the issue for me particularly is that in my brain, I've kinda "set" my return to work already, because I'm on a 40 week contract at work and the day my "summer holidays" start is June 23rd. So as things stood when I was furloughed (officially in March, but they only sent out the paperwork last week.), even if they started calling us back into work in June, I was very likely to not be going in, or if I did go in it wouldn't be for long, and processing that I might be wrong on that front is apparently a little stressful. Good to know! As it is, I'm gonna have to wait until work's weekly pandemic update to see what they make of it. I'm hoping that they're going to decide to keep campus closed, but if students/stakeholders/researchers start agitating to come back, that might start something.
... God I wish we had universal basic income so people didn't have to do the maths of "Do I go back to work ASAP or do I stay in quarantine?"
But seriously I have already sent my mum a message saying "I don't care what the bewigged buffoon says, STAY AT HOME" and I am happy to do that to anyone else's parents if you need it.
