Press Y to HONK
Monday, 11 November 2019 11:24 pmHey everyone! I haven't really had any anti-nano updates because I'm currently in the middle of flailing around a bunch to try to catch up on... Everything. So general update on everything that ISN'T anti-nano!
So.... Yeah, that's me, that's what I've been up to this last week. I hope you're all okay!
- I've been doing this thing where if I get a new book or game or film or whatever, I write the title in my diary on a day that's six weeks after I got it, with the goal of reading/watching/playing it by then! It helps me to remember that I do own things for a purpose instead of just letting the warm fuzzies of ownership carry me over until I forget it exists. It's... Working? I think? It works better with the swear jar and actually putting review deadlines in my diary as well, because then I have material consequences, but I'm actually making progress on my piles of stuff!
- (Is this going to assuage the guilt and attendant avoidant behaviour that means I've not been talking to my online friends as much as I want because I owe them things? PROBABLY NOT.)
- My ereader is full, by the way. Like, it's got a... 64GB memory card in it as extra storage, and it's FULL. HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN.
- Part of this "actually consuming the media I bring into my house" thing has been FINALLY getting back to playing video games! I've been getting stuck into phone games for the last few months because they're repetitive and soothing and Merge Dragons doesn't actually have an overarching story that I need to care about so it's an excellent break for my brain. But I think I've rested my brain enough now and I'm actually ready to go back to things with emotional stakes.
- The game about the Horrible Goose was EXACTLY what I needed. I didn't realise that it was a stealth game until it was too late and I was invested, but pfffffft stealth is for geese who aren't willing to steal a woman's broom and hide it down a back alley. And despite the entire game being "You are a Horrible Goose" it all felt so... Benign. Peaceful. Charming. Even though my explicit goal was to run around ruining everyone's days and being very excited about getting to honk and steal things.
- I can't remember how the topic of Horrible Goose teaming up with a Trash Panda came up, but my immediate response was "So you want a crossover between Untitled Goose Game and Donut County," and hi, I think that might be the greatest crossover to never exist.
- My pseudotwin got me Resonance of Fate for my birthday, so I've been replaying that! I only have vague memories of the last time I tried to play it, and those memories are "It's a dress-up game with some other stuff attached" and maybe time-loops? I can't remember, just that I was here for the OT3 and the pretty clothes. ... The combat system is very pretty? It requires thinking ahead though, so I'm not very good at it yet.
- I played more of The Arcana and then had too many feelings about Julian and had to stop. HE IS SUCH A DISASTER AND I LOVE HIM, THIS IS TERRIBLE.
- I've still not started Fire Emblem: Three Houses yet, despite the armoured bisexual and her very tired-looking sidekick. Soon though! It might have to be my Christmas holidays game, where I'll actually have time to get stuck into a turn-based RPG.
- I'm doing a clear-out of my bookshelves! The end goal is to get rid of the books that I'm either never going to read, or that I did read and don't actually LIKE. So far I've been going through my graphic novels, and anything that I can't immediately think of a home for is being listed on twitter before I try to donate it to a library, so if you see something you want please say!
- We have a landlord visit on the 3rd of December, and uggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh. I am not ready for my cleaning abilities to be dragged by a woman who has a maid, okay, there are two people with executive function disorders and one person with a full-time job in this house, so keeping it clean is HARD. (As you all probably know from my CONSTANT KVETCHING. ONE DAY, the house will be tidy. ONE DAY.)
- I am back on my crocheting bullshit!
jilliferium's housemates paid for the wool for me to crochet a toy for their kid, so I guess that's what I'm doing now? (They gave me enough money to cover stuffing and felt and stuff as well, but I have a BUNCH of that left over from my last amigurumi adventures. ... I really need to send them the change back, whoops.) It's going okay! I've just hit the doldrums that is "double crochet for 2 inches/5 centimetres" which is UK double crochet rather than US and ugggggggggggggggggh.
- ... On a mostly related matter, it took me YEARS to figure out how the hell to do a magic circle. I tried videos. I tried different written tutorials. I tried asking someone to show me in person. I figured it out... Last year? Definitely after the start of the darkest timeline, because that's when I started making toys. And this pattern just sums it up as " make a large slipknot that tightens with its tail. Ch1 into the slipknot, dc5 into the slip knot. Pull the tail to tighten the knot." ... That's it, that's the circle, and I have no idea whether it works because I know how to do it or if it's just that every other explanation I saw overcomplicated it so much I had no idea what to do!
So.... Yeah, that's me, that's what I've been up to this last week. I hope you're all okay!
