APPARENTLY the only reason I ever want to write Gladio is to have him despair over Ignis' terrible life choices. I feel exceptionally valid about this.

"What were you thinking?" Gladio snarled, focusing hard on keeping a light touch with the bandages despite his worst impulses.

"It would have hit Noct." Ignis said, like that was all that mattered. Ignis was pale with blood loss despite the potions they'd poured into him, and his chest was a mess where they'd pulled the MT harpoon out of him, but it hadn't hit Noct.

You nearly died, Gladio didn't say.

You're not the only his only protection, Gladio didn't say.

"Leave the heroics to me, alright?" Gladio said. "I don't carry that shield around just to look good."
