[Fic] Shadowrun // Late night double feature picture show
Friday, 27 November 2015 11:30 pmSee, I'm assuming that Reckert secretly grew up on westerns and gets all of his swagger and stuff from that, with a healthy vein of really hopeful crime dramas. But I can't make jokes about hopeful crime dramas, where I can make jokes about how there's like EIGHTEEN different films called El Dorado.
ALSO fuck's sake self, this got horribly mangled around the middle and I can't work out how to fix it.
No, I am not going to write anything to do with Rocky Horror, life is too short.
Shadowrun // Late night double feature picture show
G | words | Joshua, Reckert | No warnings | Joshua's latest job came with perks!
"So, there's a double feature on tonight," Joshua said, sitting down on the chair he'd claimed as his at Reckert's desk.
"How did you get in here? I locked that door."
Joshua waved his hand, dismissing the question because he didn't want Reckert taking his new maglock passkeys. "No, this is important, you'll love it - someone's set up, like, a temporary cinema in one of the warehouses in the barrens, and guess who got two tickets for cleaning out the ghouls?"
(And a healthy dose of credits, but Reckert didn't need to know about that.)
Reckert glared at him, probably turning over the number of permit requests the organisers should have filled in for that and trying to decide whether he wanted Joshua to lie to him about that now or later. "And why are you telling me this?"
"Two tickets! To watch vids on a screen the size of a warehouse!" Reckert still looked like he was expecting a trap though. "You haven't asked me what the double feature is."
Reckert leaned back and sighed. "If I do, will you let me get back to work?"
"Of course officer, I wouldn't want to waste any of your valuable time," Joshua said, trying to look dutiful.
"What is this double feature?"
Joshua pulled the flier out of his jacket and slapped it down on the table. Yeah, paper fliers. Old school. He had no idea what the movies were – they were both called El Dorado, and had two guys lurking on the posters in cowboy hats, but he'd no idea what the movies were about. He'd tried to look them up, but he'd given up after he realised just how many movies there were called El Dorado. But he had recognised the posters on the flier from Reckert's vid collection. Both of them. Both of those copies clearly almost as old as Joshua.
He couldn't read Reckert's expression though.
"So, I have two tickets. Showing's at ten, I can pick you up after your shift, and we can get there in time to grab beer and good seats? Or I can just, leave you your ticket and we can meet up at the warehouse..."
"That sounds..." Reckert stopped to clear his throat. "That sounds great. Thank you."
Joshua grinned at him, jumping out of his chair and heading to the door. "Null perspiration, chummer! I'll meet you outside? You can keep the flier, they gave me a bunch."
Reckert nodded, sliding the flier into his desk drawer. "You'd better get going so I can finish this paperwork. And Joshua?"
"Yeah?" Joshua turned and Reckert was suddenly... Very close. Leaning right into Joshua's space, not quite trapping him against the wall, but only a few steps away from it. He reached out – how Joshua managed not to flinch away he had no idea – and put his hand on Joshua's chest.
"One thing."
Joshua made a very smart, articulate noise that sounded like a high-pitched "Um?!"
Reckert moved his hand into Joshua's jacket and... Pulled out the manila envelope that he'd picked up from an office upstairs. Shit. "Don't do runs on Lone Star before you come to see me. You'll make us late for the show."

and SO ADORABLE

so perfect
Showing's at ten, I can pick you up after your shift, and we can get there in time to grab beer and good seats?
ugggghhhhh <3333333 I want to make a joke here about how maybe if Joshua talks fast enough Reckert a) won't notice Joshua is asking him out and b) won't have time to say no, but I'm not sure Joshua even knows he is asking Reckert out.
You can keep the flier, they gave me a bunch."
hahaha I just. I can clearly picture whoever is in charge of this being a little alarmed at how excited Joshua was about this whole thing. Excited and splattered with ghoul blood. Just shoving fliers at him until he goes away.
Joshua made a very smart, articulate noise that sounded like a high-pitched "Um?!"
This is my favourite part. Ugh. UGH. SO GREAT.
"You'll make us late for the show."
yesssss
Sooner or later Reckert is going to realize that the best way to keep Joshua from committing crimes is to spend time with him, and it's not going to be good for Joshua's rep when that happens.

Date: 2015-12-12 12:42 am (UTC)I am PRETTY SURE that Joshua is never going to consciously realise that he's asked Reckert out on a date. They could be necking in the back row like it's the 50s or something, and Joshua would probably only just be getting a clue.
Just shoving fliers at him until he goes away.
He was probably telling them how excited his friend was going to be about this whole thing and the organisers were like "Oh god there's two of them, what have we done?!" and then Reckert shows up looking calm and normal, and they make the mistake of relaxing until Reckert tries to arrest SOMEBODY.
Sooner or later Reckert is going to realize that the best way to keep Joshua from committing crimes is to spend time with him, and it's not going to be good for Joshua's rep when that happens.
... I want to add that to the prompt list on your journal. ._. It will be bad for his denial as well, and possibly his health when he makes sure that the crime he does commit really counts.
