spindizzy: Lancer coughing up blood (I die)

Especially because Jill was very hype about Until Dawn, so we may have capslocked on the phone about it a fair bit. And then I may have capslocked some more at [twitter.com profile] splend!

  • According to Jill, Dr Hill is actually a person! A person that Josh actually went to see as a result of his sisters' disappearance – you can find texts and reports from the real Dr Hill, which strongly suggest that Josh went AWOL weeks before this mess, so there is a real chance that his parents DON'T KNOW ANYONE IS UP THERE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

  • I'm kinda "Oh, of COURSE Josh had serious mental illnesses all along, why wouldn't he" but I'm honestly at the stage where I'm just grateful that the story doesn't demonise his medications (because it's honestly fifty-fifty in my experience as to whether a piece of media is going to blame the problem on someone taking medication or not taking them). I mean, sure, great, a character is having a complete mental breakdown, of course, thanks media, but... It coulda been worse?

  • Jill also pointed out that considering how the kids act, they're probably rich kids, which means that there's a pretty good chance that their parents are keen on the whole "putting the past behind them thing" and making everything appear normal regardless of whether it IS or not, so Josh's message would have really appealed to the parents.

  • (Also, the fact that he was recording everything means that sending the invitation out as a video makes a lot more sense! It would have been the youtube equivalent of Disgaea House, I guess.)

  • I had a fridge logic moment of "Whoever finds the kids might HAVE to believe them, because Josh rigged so much of the space with cameras that were all definitely streaming to SOMEWHERE." I assume they were all going to his murder nest, but if it wasn't in the house (or it was far enough into the tunnels because THIS MOUNTAIN IS MADE OF SWISS CHEESE) then there's a pretty good chance that it all survived. I think it was in the basement, wasn't it? It was the room where Mike nearly shot Emily? So it might have been destroyed, but if it wasn't... Then they have pretty good odds of people believing SOMETHING happened!

  • From the interviews, I'm assuming that they keep the kids separated, because they keep asking if other characters made it, or if they're okay! Which sounds like they don't know who else is there, which... I guess makes sense for Matt and Jessica, because they would have been rescued from a different spot on the mountain – how did anyone even FIND Matt and Jessica, did Matt just scrabble up a cliff and wave at the helicopters? Did they go up to where the radio tower used to be?

  • If Matt doesn't know that Emily's okay, that would explain his "I was RIGHT THERE" reaction – we thought he was talking about Jess the first time, but he says that when Jess makes it out too, so he mustn't know that Emily's okay!

  • I just want all of the scenes of them slowly being reunited with each other and discovering that their friends are alive, and someone having to explain to Matt and Jessica that Josh was pretending to be a murderer! BECAUSE NEITHER OF THEM KNOW THAT.

  • Please join me in imagining Jess getting all of the very gentle hugs that she deserves. And imagining everyone's reactions when they discover that people are alive (Matt and Emily, everyone and Jess. ;____; ) And the way Mike, whose one goal was to get people out alive because he failed Jessica, discovering that Jessica told the interviewers that he came for her. ;________; (Also: I AM SO BROKEN UP ABOUT JESSICA, JUST IN GENERAL.)

  • The soft way that Jessica says "No, not me," when the interviewer asks about Ashley hearing her KILLS ME DEAD.

  • The interviewers didn't let the kids get changed before the interviews started, which sounds like cruelty to me considering Mike, Ashley, and Jess are covered in blood, Emily and Matt had to literally climb through fire, and Mike and Sam both had to wade through cold water in the middle of winter.

  • They would probably be given generic sweatsuits while their clothes were taken for evidence and I would bet money that Emily would be a diva about it. She's wearing a $600 top, and they want her to wear a one-size-fits-none sweater? She might go for it, but it would probably be a struggle.

  • I really do kinda want the kids to have been whisked away to the obligatory Bureau of Supernatural Bullshit that seems to exist in every American horror franchise. It would be fun to have the story about their debrief, is what I'm saying, and I could see a creditable case being made for keeping them in one place to heal up/while they looked for Josh. (Losing two Washingtons could be carelessness; three is enemy action.) ... Oh Christ, imagine them finding out about Josh. ;_____;

  • Like, I don't think this would be a Skull Island "You're the only people who saw the weird thing, therefore you're going to have to deal with the weird thing," but I think they'd definitely be kept as people of interest, is what I'm saying.

  • WHY WAS RELEASING THE SPIRITS BAD. WHY ARE THEY ANGRY SCREAMING FACES MADE OF FIRE. WHY DID OLD MAN SMITHERS NOT MAKE IT SO HE COULD EXPLAIN THE MONSTERS A LITTLE MORE COHERENTLY. ... Also did he write in his notebook on the understanding that it was probably a "If you're reading this, I'm already dead?" Because that's the tone he seems to have taken. If the wendigos are released, does that mean that they can possess other people? Or that they move on? Or... What, I genuinely have no idea anymore.

  • I don't necessarily want shippy fic for this fandom, just melancholy recovery fic. Or the further traumatic adventures of these exhausted muppets. I... Have no idea if that exists, and I'm not sure how many happy shipping AUs I'm going to have to wade through to find them.

  • Somehow I'm simultaneously surprised and NOT surprised to find that Chris/Josh is the most popular pairing, although I AM kinda "Hm... Nah..." about it. Also, I want you all to know that when I went on AO3 the most recently updated Until Dawn fic was a Yuri on Ice fusion where Chris-the-skater accidentally bought a cursed chalet. NOPE.
  • (Bless the AO3 and all who sail it for the Exclude Crossovers button, I have made such good use of that.)

  • I have been reading around on the internet and discovered that it IS hypothetically possible for Matt to survive trying to save Emily, as long as he has the flare gun and she doesn't. I just can't imagine Emily, who likes being in control of everything, not keeping the flare gun for herself.

  • Jill says it Until Dawn was in a Playstation Plus offer a while ago, so I might have to go back and see if I have access to it or not so I can poke the game some more. OR I might just watch other people's playthroughs, because I am a cowardy custard.

  • ... Do I want Until Dawn icons. And if I do, do I want them from when everything is nice, or when everything is miserable?

  • (OTHER PEOPLE GOT THE JUMP SCARE WITH THE BINOCULARS AND SERIOUSLY MIKE AND JESS DON'T REACT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS LITERALLY A WENDIGO IN THEIR FACES HOW DID YOU GUYS NOT GET EATEN IN CHAPTER TWO.)
