spindizzy: Count D in a cleaning frenzy. (Working hard)
(Seriously, this entry is all about my efforts at cleaning, feel free to skip it.)

Hey everyone, y'alreet? I'm still in the midst of the Great Unfuckening, and I'm getting to the stage where I've done MOST of the worst bits, and we're getting dangerously close to the point where I'm running out of things that I can throw away or shove into a storage unit? Like, I need to clear out one last cupboard and somehow collate all of the random drifts of stationery across the floor, but we... Might be getting there? Very slowly? Which is a bit of a bugger because I'm working on Sunday and the landlady's coming around on Tuesday, but I'M SURE I WILL THINK OF SOMETHING.

(My current plan is "Okay, cool, anything that we aren't using imminently can go INTO THE STORAGE UNIT TO BE FORGOTTEN ABOUT BY GOD AND MAN" this weekend, because I'm doing my best, but there's limits I guess?)

But yes, anyway, I feel like I've actually done a fair chunk? Like, not enough that I'd be comfortable letting the landlady in, but enough that we could actually get it there without having a meltdown and spending the entire day cleaning until we can't move anymore? Which is NEW AND NOVEL! This has never happened before! ... Meds are MAGIC and being able to clean the house in multiple steps instead of all-or-nothing is amazing.

Also, I'm slowly going through my book collection and taking things out of it that I'm either probably not going to read, or that I just don't want in hardcopy anymore. On the plus side, it turns out that Blackwells doesn't buy fiction and graphic novels as themselves, but they will box stuff up for you to go to like, Ziffit or WeBuyBooks or whatever service it is they use? So I'm breaking down my books into "Things I can sell," "Things I can foist upon an unsuspecting friend," and "Things I might just have to donate." It's going... Okay, I think. I'm still a little twitchy, because my brain insists I might need everything later, but also... I don't need all of these books in hardcopy. Some of them I don't like, some of them I know for a fact that I'm not going to read, some of them are four-score and seven hobbies ago, some I have in ebook and am okay with not having in both formats... I don't know! It's weird! It feels weird to actually have the brainpower to sit down and look at my books as a objects that are taking up space rather than a to-do list that I've already failed! ... Not bad weird, maybe, but definitely weird. And it's given me an incentive to actually read some of the graphic novels I get in Page 45's Comic Book of the Month club, which is nice? I've been a member for a couple of years, but a lot of the time if it's not obviously queer or I can't think of someone I can immediately pass it onto, it ends up in a pile and forgotten about.

SPEAKING OF: I did like The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up! It was very kind, the explanations and reasonings made a lot of sense to me, and while there was some stuff where I looked at it and went "I can't follow that," I could probably do something that would work as well for me. Just as an example: her recommendation is that you make a pile of everything you own in one category when you're going through them to sort them out so that you know how much you have, and hahahaha I DO NOT HAVE SPACE IN MY ROOM TO DO THAT WITH MY BOOKS, so I've been collating all of my books into boxes, and working on the boxes! And I definitely squint at the suggestion that you don't fold your bras in half, because as a fat lady with boobs I definitely do not have space to do that. But the book is hopeful, and that gives me hope?

Anyway, that is enough about tidying the house. I promise that next post will only mention tidying tangentially!
spindizzy: (*INTERNAL SIGH*)
  • THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD-LOOKING FILMS COMING OUT THIS WEEK! I'm going to see Knives Out tomorrow with [twitter.com profile] sithe, which appears to be a sweary Agatha Christie movie? It's got Chris Evans being a douche and Daniel Craig doing his best Peter Stormare impression, but that's literally all I've got. But on FRIDAY, there's going to be a showing of Promare, which looks like pastel-neon Fire Force with mechs? AND the new Charlie's Angel comes out then too, which I am SO HYPE FOR! I am very gay for the sheer amount of femme-but-murder on show here. And Maleficent is still on and I'm trying to decide if I want to see it or not?

  • The self-publishing course that I've been going on wraps up tomorrow! It's been pretty good so far! It's only two people, and I know SOME of the stuff already? But it's been useful getting to break down How To Blurbs And Covers! The last session is going to be on marketing, which is going to be interesting considering, y'know, *gestures vaguely at my whole THING*

  • I am so behiiiiiiiind on everythiiiiiiiiiing! Which is a fixable problem but I have shark week brain so everything feels harder than it needs to be.

  • I have a baking cupboard in the kitchen now! ... Okay, it's a baking chest of drawers but it STILL COUNTS!

  • 4thewords is doing cool stuff again! The Nanowrimo event is wrapping up, and I am desperately trying to squeeze words out of my brain to try to get through all of the quests that I can't carry over into December. I HAVE unlocked the sword of doom though (Like, I know most of you don't play the game but please believe me that a +18 sword is INCREDIBLY GOOD) so I'm happy! And they have some cool stuff coming up by the sound of it? Like, I asked if our characters could have houses a while ago, and THE HOUSES ARE COMING TO THE GAME OMG, I INDIRECTLY CONTRIBUTED TO SOMETHING COOL BEING ADDED TO THE GAME! And they're doing paid time bundles with monthly shinies now which I didn't see coming, so that's cool!

  • (Oh yeah, my referral code is MPQXW63641 if you want to try it out.)

  • I've not started FE3H, but SOON.
