spindizzy: Cartoon of me wearing a mask and looking tired (Default)
"His brother's a deadbeat, but he's one of our parents," Kanan says, baring her teeth in what might bear a passing resemblence to a smile. "Letting someone eat him probably wouldn't look good."

Right, sorry about that last post, I was literally falling asleep and somehow managed to miss that I'd not stuck the first three paragraphs on. Whoops! But I'm awake now, so hopefully that'll last till I actually hit post!

Didn't post yesterday, because I wrote NO fiction at all yesterday! It was literally "wake up -> shower -> drive to Sheffield to see the ADHD doctor -> post-mental-health-shenanigans maccies -> go into town to post parcels and try to buy stationery that would fit my new filofax -> go round to [twitter.com profile] madebyjenni's house to play boardgames and heckle her cats."
  • I haven't been discharged from my ADHD doctor yet, but we have hit the stage where he's comfortable just sending my prescriptions out instead of me making a face-to-face appointment every six weeks. This is EXCELLENT because a face-to-face appointment involves an hour drive to Sheffield and paying £195 to actually SEE the doctor, whereas now I hopefully will just need to pay for the medication. (The medication at my dosage is about £120 and that's still an eye-watering amount of money, but that's an amount I can maybe get together myself, whereas £315 every six weeks was NOT.)

  • ... Of course, the fun and exciting part of that was "I took my prescription into Boots and the pharmacist came back to let me know that he couldn't fill my prescription until Monday because the doctor's registration number wasn't showing up on their database."

  • It turns out that Rymans will let you get the teacher discount card even if you're just a support worker for an education thing! That's nice! And apparently they recycle dead pens, so I guess at some point I need to go in and just make it rain.

  • (I don't know why I automatically put an s on the end of every business, but I'm pretty sure everyone else does and it makes it really awkward to get to a shop's website when you can't remember if the s is there or not.)

  • I didn't manage to find stationery for my filofax, because apparently expecting there to be cheap bulk packs of A5 paper punched to fit a six-ring binder is lunacy, BUT I did manage to buy a multipack of cheap A5 paper and find my A5 filofax hole punch and my single-hole punch, so I'm doing CRAFTS today!

  • Cat tax.

  • We played a spin-off of The Captain Is Dead! Vanilla The Captain Is Dead is "You are the crew of space ship trying to stop it crashing into asteroids, being taken over by aliens, or plain old breaking down in space, but also The Captain Is Dead," which is a lot of fun! It's probably more Star Trek inspired than anything else, but I'm pretty sure you could go "Ah yes, this is a reference to my favourite SF property" about any bit of it if you wanted. THIS version of The Captain Is Dead is "You can't leave this planet until you find all of these alien artefacts for Reasons, but also the artefacts are all in tunnels full of killer bugs that want to swarm you, and also The Captain Is Dead!" It's fun! Reminds me of a lot of different things, like Starship Troopers and every other movie where you're yelling "JUST LEAVE AND TAKE THE BEING FIRED, YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE DOWN HERE."

And today has been... Interesting? Work was SLIGHTLY flooded, in that one of the plant rooms has apparently been leaking for weeks and today it overflowed into the corridor! (Flood sacks feel INCREDIBLY gross when they're full of water, btw, I do NOT recommend it as a sensation.) Didn't do as much writing as I wanted, in that I didn't really do any, but I DID do some stationery-based jiggery-pokery! I had a bunch of cheap pads of A5 paper, and I finally managed to hole punch them so that they actually GO INTO THE NEW FILOFAX.

Apart from that... I have nothing, I'm afraid. My kobo has slightly given up the ghost because the micro-USB port has come loose or something inside it? But on the plus side, I've now got the Kobo app installed on a kindle, which is peak "Use IE to install Firefox" energy! And I have a feeling I need to get aggressive about my to-do list now, because it's getting both silly and hard to actual decide on what I need to do. orz.

Oh, and it turns out that I still have this weird hang-up about people knowing that I might care about writing, which is really weird! I thought I'd got rid of that particular glitch, but I tried to tell Lex that I wanted to sign up for short course on self-publishing, and I was mortified. Like, even typing that sentence, I had to delete three different justifications for how it COULD still be useful to me now even though I'm... I don't even know. It's weird realising that I'm still ashamed of wanting to write and tell stories and be good! Especially considering how much actually embarrassing shit I do and immediately tell the internet about!

Word counts:: Total words for the month: 4256, of which all but 548 is reviews! Good work!
